The return of the Shrimp
What it is, what it does, what it is, what it isn't
Well, well, well. Look who came crawling back. I bet you thought I gave up on you. Please, I would never! After a slightly overwhelming winter full of projects, I decided to take March off, which turned into March and April. Then I spent May working on this piece, June dragging my heels through the editorial process, yada yada, whatever. It’s done now, landing gracefully in your inboxes via Shrimp mail.
I’m used to doing short-term projects, and when I feel like they take too long (they always seem to take too long), I get very impatient to have them off my plate. Publication day is always a relief. To tell you the truth, I didn’t work that hard on this piece, at least in comparison to some other monster projects I’ve done recently. It was kind of nice to just plod along through a familiar writing process without it being so ultra-high stress. I do know how to do these things by now. It doesn’t always have to feel like the stakes are so damn high. So I took it easy, wrote a cute piece about local puppetry, and had a good time throughout. And, hey, I think it turned out pretty well.
I am particularly excited for many of you out-of-towners to read this article. Your incessant questions about why I was going to so many puppet shows in Minneapolis were the inspiration for it. I’ve wondered about that question myself ever since I moved here. It’s not just that there’s a lot of theater here, although that’s true too. There really are an inordinate number of puppets in this town. I hope this gives you some answers about why.
Je vous prèsente: Why is Minneapolis such a puppet town?
Mwah,
